Announcing workshops in Port Costa!
In connection with our residency at the Port Costa Schoolhouse, sponsored by the Port Costa Conservation Society, Idiot String is proud to announce our 2019 Workshop Series in Port Costa. This workshop series is supported by generous funding from the Crockett Community Foundation.
Every workshop is an all-levels creative workout, geared to accommodate folks with little to no performing experience and to challenge veteran performers. Individualized attention at each workshop will ensure that you can come as you are. We’ll work to be sure you leave inspired!
Most workshops are suitable for ages 14 to adult. Participants under 18 must have their parents’ permission. Port Costa, Crockett, and Tormey residents can attend any workshop for just $10!
Ensemble Character Creation in the Peripatetic Mode!
January 27, 2019
Idiot String’s resident troupe, the Peripatetic Players, are known as eccentric actor-characters who never met a stage on which they couldn’t shine. In this workshop, led by Idiot String Artistic Director Rebecca Longworth, participants will engage in acting warm-ups, games, and exercises that will build on each individual’s unique qualities to create a new fictional character. May 19 2019
Participants will learn about Idiot String’s approach to creating stories and characters inspired by the performance site — in this case, the Port Costa School and the town itself — and bringing them to life in performance. Led by Idiot String’s Artistic Director, Rebecca Longworth, and Port Stories dramaturg (and Port Costa native), Soren Santos, the workshop will conclude with readings and/or mini-performances created by workshop participants. No experience is necessary; the workshop is best suited for ages 15 and up. Workshop admission is $40, or $10 for residents of Port Costa, Crockett, or Tormey.

Physical Comedy with the Peripatetic Players
June 16 2019
The Peripatetic Players also never met a situation they couldn’t turn to chaotic comic gold. Led by Idiot String Co-Founder Joan Howard, this workshop for all levels will teach you to trip, slip, fall, and bounce right back! Learn more and sign up here.
Date to be announced!
In this workshop, we’ll explore some tools for adapting stories — both old favorites and new — to the stage. Take this one with Dad! We’ll have more information and a sign-up link here shortly.
