Production Description
Port Stories is the title of Idiot String’s next mainstage production: an interactive, site-specific performance that will take place throughout downtown Port Costa and at the historic Port Costa School in June, 2019.
Port Stories is devised collaboratively with the ensemble, directed by Rebecca Longworth, with dramaturgy by Soren Santos. Rebecca and Soren will collaborate on initial narrative structures and themes; Rebecca, Soren, and other collaborators will create the final script. Joan Howard, Design Director, will lead the aesthetic vision for the show.
Port Stories is fictional, taking inspiration from the history of Port Costa and nearby communities — a history that encapsulates experiences and themes familiar throughout the Bay Area. Themes we’re working with include:
- Migration and displacement
- Boom and bust; reckoning with acts of nature like wildfires and earthquakes; and the physical landscape of the Carquinez Strait
- Tiny (or hidden) worlds, miniatures, dioramas, and other imaginative worlds
